Feb 09Rubik’s Cube Difficulty Graph
I started cubing (Rubik’s cubing, that is) about 4 months ago. I can now solve the 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, and 7×7 cubes, the sudokube (sudoku + Rubik’s cube), the pyraminx, the megaminx, the pyraminx crystal, and a variety of other little (non-cube) Rubik’s puzzles. I helped found (and am a member of) the MIT Rubik’s Cube Club, for which I made the website. And ever since I learned the higher-order puzzles (namely the 4×4 through 7×7), I’ve had the idea of making this silly graph. So, here it is, at last.

Seriously, a 3×3 is way easier than people think, so you might want to change this so the intersection is somewhere between 2×2 and 3×3.

My kids did not even know what a rubiks cube was and when we got one in a party bag they were shocked to learn that it was a toy I was addicted to in my childhood.
I remember being so frustrated that I broke it apart and reassembled it to finish it.

I’ve still got my old tatty rubiks cube, received as a Christmas gift back in the 80’s!

Now that’s really, cool, it always took me a few minutes to finish a cube.
